2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Comes With No Major Changes

In 2016, Toyota launched the RAV4 Hybrid as a 2016 model, with an intention of cementing its position as a worldwide leader in hybrid cars. Surprisingly, the market for compact hybrid crossovers is relatively untouched and RAV4 entered this market with its hybrid offering. Being a small crossover, this model is quite an efficient vehicle. Addition of proven hybrid technology from Toyota results in an even more efficient model. The next model, 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid will arrive soon with just a few updates.

What’s new?

The new model year RAV4 Hybrid models will benefit from Toyota’s Safety Sense Package which becomes standard on all models.

New hybrids from Toyota:

Toyota has already made clear that it intends to create hybrid variants of all its top selling models by 2020. With Toyota Highlander Hybrid debuting in 2006 and 2016 RAV4 Hybrid debuting at 2015 New York Auto Show, it seems only a matter of time before other models of Toyota get their hybrid versions.

Most entry level hybrid models have near about the same appearance as their standard counterparts. However, that is not the case with 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Actually it looks better than standard model of RAV4, thanks to Toyota Mirai inspired front end styling. As compared to the standard model, hybrid model has edgier fascia, smaller headlights and clear lensed taillight.

Exterior appearance of 2016 RAV4 will be carried over to 2017 model with no significant change. A minor update comes with addition of a new paint color Galactic Aqua Mica, which replaces current Hot Lava paint color. 17 inch alloy wheels, sunroof and power lift gate are other notable exterior components.

Interior and Features:

Cabin of 2017 RAV4 Hybrid is quite similar to standard variant, with changes limited mainly to gauge cluster. It continues to have great cargo hauling capacity. It offers 70.6 cubic feet of cargo space with seats lowered and 35.6 cubic feet with seats up.

In order to enhance safety, Toyota’s Safety Sense system is added to 2017 model as standard on all trims. This technology offers lane departure warning, pre-collision system, automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control.

Other features offered with this model will be organized in two trims XLE and Limited. Standard on the XLE models are features like tilt and telescopic steering wheel, 17-inh wheels, roof rails, dual zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, a 6.1 inch touch screen interface, etc.

Next trim level brings 18 inch wheels, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a 8-way power adjustable driver seats and power lumbar, larger 7-inch screen interface with smartphone integration, satellite radio, etc.

As far as powertrain of 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is concerned, it should remain the same as 2016 model. So, it will offer a combination of 2.5 liter inline four cylinder engine and electric motors front and rear. There is also battery pack and continuously variable transmission. This combination generates about 194 HP, which is quite impressive for a compact crossover.

Furthermore, it even offers an impressive 33 mpg of combined fuel efficiency. It comes with a standard all wheel drive system which uses the rear axle electric motor which engages when the system detects that additional power is needed.

2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is expected to arrive late in 2016, with a starting price of $29,970. The range topping model has a starting price of $34,970.
