The first model of Cadillac XT5 replaced Cadillac’s best-selling SRX. The new model adopts brand’s new naming strategy and XT5 means Crossover Touring 5. With the new naming scheme, this model also brought fresh styling, pleasing ride, spacious interior and premium features. The next version of this model will be the 2018 Cadillac XT5 but being all-new for the 2017 model year it will continue largely unchanged.
2018 Cadillac XT5: Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, the 2018 Cadillac XT5 will, of course, continue unchanged compared to the current version.
The styling of this model is an evolution from the look of the SRX model. The XT5 features straight edges and lines which are, however, slightly softer than on the SRX. Further, this model will have brand’s familiar shield-shaped grille and vertically oriented lighting.
The model, on the other hand, sits on the lightweight C1XX platform related with the GMC Acadia and some other models like the redesigned Chevy Traverse.
Inside, the new XT5 will be spacious and comfortable and Cadillac also put the focus on details. The quality of materials is high and each trim adds to its unique touch.
The model will be available in base, Luxury, Premium Luxury and top Platinum trim. The base models will have LED DRL’s, power liftgate, power front seats, dual-zone climate control, remote start, keyless entry and ignition, etc. Standard will also the CUE infotainment system with smartphone compatibility, 4G LTE connection, wireless charging, etc.
Higher trims will add features like the leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, tri-zone climate control, unique trim inserts, additional safety features, etc.
In terms of passengers’ safety, all models will come with the forward collision warning, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, etc.
2018 Cadillac XT5 Powertrain, MPG
Cadillac hasn’t revealed its plans regarding the engine options for the new 2018 Cadillac XT5 but there should not be big surprises.
This premium crossover SUV will again have the same engine under the hood as the current model. The 3.6-liter engine V-6 engine can produce 310 hp and torque of 271 pound-feet. It works in the combination with the 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive will be standard.
On the other hand, available will also be an advanced all-wheel drive system which can distribute all available power to the front or rear wheels and further between each wheel depending on the traction.
The new XT5 will feature automatic stop/start technology in order to improve fuel economy. The front-wheel drive models will return 22 mpg combined. With the all-wheel drive the fuel economy will be 21 mpg combined.
