It is nearly confirmed news that Ford Ranger will be entering the US market once again. For its transition to a US truck, the car manufacturer will most likely borrow a lot of heavily from the existing model, while providing an update on key areas. This US spec model will most likely arrive as 2018 Ford Ranger.
This mid-size pickup was killed by Ford back in 2012, and it has been missed ever since. Later, Ford debuted an all-new Ranger, although it was never sold in the United States. Now, it seems that Ford Ranger is all set to make its reentry. Furthermore, it will also be joined by Bronco SUV, yet another iconic Ford model that has been recently dormant.
2018 Ford Ranger: Design and Styling
As compared to F-150 pickup truck, 2018 Ford Ranger will have its own distinctive design. This means that the global model’s present design is likely to be carried over mostly unchanged. It will possibly arrive in the US with only minor exterior tweaks.
Expect similar front fascia as on the global version. Consumers will be given a choice of chrome or black finish with different trim levels. Most exterior elements like headlights, bumper and grills shall remain unchanged mostly.
However, new headlight and grille designs might be introduced to separate the trim levels. There are also chances that higher trim levels will have a panoramic moonroof, just like the F-150. The lineup of this model will consist of 17-inch to 19-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain or all season tires.
Cabin of 2018 Ranger
The interior of global model is quite impressive at this moment, and it should get an extensive update before 2018 model year. This means that US spec 2018 Ranger will also feature an improved and renovated interior.
The present model has an uncluttered design. Latest SYNC version will also be available on higher trim levels, which brings satellite and HD radio, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, voice controls, hands-free phone operation and probably even 360 camera system.
2018 Ford Ranger: Possible engine options
2018 Ford Ranger will likely feature a 3.2 liter 5 cylinder turbodiesel unit, capable of generating 185 HP and 350 lb-ft of torque. Next possible option in the lineup is likely to be 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6, which is already present in Ford F-150. It presently generates 325 HP and 375 lb-ft of torque.
Ford should include a gasoline 4 cylinder engine in the lineup. The 2.3 liter Ecoboost in line 4 of Ford Explorer makes for a good candidate. It generates 280 HP and 310 lb-ft of torque in SUV. Transmission options include six-speed auto and six-speed manual transmission.
2018 Ford Ranger: Price and Arrival
2018 Ford Ranger should arrive early in 2018, with a starting price of approximately $21,000. Its main rivals will be Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon twins.
