For 2018 model year, GMC Terrain crossover will be completely overhauled by GMC. The first generation of this model belonged to somewhere between mid-size crossover and compact crossover segments. Now, the 2018 GMC Terrain will completely belong to the compact crossover category. Although the first generation of this model was considered to be a good model, it seems that GMC is introducing a completely new Terrain in hopes of improving its grasp in the rapidly growing crossover segment.
Platform and Design
This upcoming model will ride on the new D2XX platform of GM. It comes after the Theta platform and Delta 2 platform. This new platform will provide a lighter yet more rigid architecture.
It improves driving dynamism, while also increasing safety and efficiency. A higher percentage of high strength steel has been used, thanks to this new architecture. The result is a stiffer construction, although with a reduced weight. Expected weight saving is around 200 pounds. Chevy Volt, Opel Astra K, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Equinox and Buick Envision are other models using this architecture.
Design of the second generation of GMC Terrain will be complete, and it will represent the evolution of the design language of GMC. Since GMC is looking to reposition 2018 GMC Terrain into compact crossover segment, it is quite obvious that this upcoming model will shrink a bit in size as compared to the previous model.
Interior and Technological Features
2018 Terrain’s interior offers more space, improved technology, increased ergonomics and better comfort. Even though exterior dimensions of this model have decreased a bit, the passenger volume should increase with an efficient use of available space. Two-row seating arrangement for five passengers will continue, along with a sliding second row.
The new GMC Terrain will feature various advanced technology. It will provide safer and more convenient driving experience. It comes with latest version of GMC IntelliLink infotainment system with Google Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. To enhance the connectivity, OnStar is available with 4G LTE including Wi-Fi hotspot.
Safety Features of 2018 GMC Terrain
The safety of this model will benefit from improved body structure. The upcoming model should include 10 airbags as standard along with other safety features. There will also be Side Blind Zone alert, lane keep assistance system, forward collision alert, and rear cross traffic alert etc.
2018 GMC Terrain: Engine Spec
Two engine options should be offered with 2018 GMC Terrain. The base engine should be A turbocharged 1.4 liter inline 4 LE2. As an option should come turbocharged 2 liter Ecotec inline 4 LTG option. 6-speed automatic will be the base transmission. Also 8-speed auto transmission will be available optionally.
