The long awaited 2018 Honda Civic Si Sedan has finally been released and shown worldwide at the New York Auto Show. Although it has undergone a major overhaul as 2016 model, Honda manufacturer decided to slightly refresh it. First of all, Civic will for the first time receive turbocharged engine. The performance will be evidently enhanced too. There are some speculations about weight reduction as well and we can also expect some changes in its design.
This time, Honda Civic Si will be available in both sedan and coupe body styles. Its main competitors will be Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, Nissan Sentra, Toyota Corolla and Mazda3.
2018 Honda Civic Si Sedan powertrain and performance
When it comes to powertrain of 2018 Honda Civic Si Sedan, there are some well known and some new things to say. For start, the base engine that powers the current model is a 2.0-liter Inline-4. This unit is able to make 158 horses and 138 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The second option is a 1.5-liter inline-4 which is able to deliver up to 180 horsepower and the torque of 177 pound-feet. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission.
What it new for 2018 model, is that it will now appear with a turbocharged engine which will be the most powerful of all. It is a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine with direct injection. This unit will be capable of making 205 to 220 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be paired with a six-speed-automatic transmission as standard.
Design of exterior and interior
Honda Company has reduced the weight of 2018 Honda Civic Si Sedan in order to make it easier to handle and to improve its performance. When it comes to exterior design, it will be only refreshed but it will appear with some significant changes. The body will look more aggressive because of the changes made on the front fascia of the vehicle. We will notice larger air intakes and a new bumper. It will get larger wheels too. So, new Civic will ride on 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels which will give it sportier appearance. Headlamps will stay pretty much unchanged and equipped with LED daytime running lights. The rear end will feature a more subtle spoiler and tail lamps with LED lighting.
The interior of 2018 Honda Civic Si Sedan will get sportier look. The comfortable sports seats will receive red stitching. The dashboard will be simple and will feature a 7-inch display with infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moreover, a new AM∕FM∕CD sound system with 10 speakers and Siruis XM Radio will be available too. As for the equipment, new Honda will be offered with plenty of standard and available features. Some of them will be dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, cruise control etc.
Release date and price
2018 Honda Civic Si Sedan will hit the market later this year. It will probably be just in a few months. Speaking of the price, it is expected to start at $20,000, but it is not yet officially confirmed.
