After many years keeping the production of an off-road truck, Jeep has finally planned to launch the new truck version. Based on its iconic and off-road ready Wrangler Unlimited version, this new vehicle now intends to capture mid-size truck segment. The model could arrive as the 2018 Jeep Scrambler alongside with its SUV twin Wrangler which should debut by the end of this year. Another possibility is that Jeep will launch the new-gen Wrangler for the 2018 model year but the pickup truck version will wait for late 2019 because of Jeep’s tight schedule. In any case, we know that Jeep’s new truck will come and share much of its design and gear with the new Wrangler model.
2018 Jeep Scrambler: Expected engine options
Speaking about the powertrains, we don’t have doubt that 2018 Jeep Scrambler will share the engine options and other running gear with the new-generation Wrangler.
As for the base engine option, we expect to see a familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with improved design and performance. It should again come in the combination with a six-speed manual transmission. But, Wrangler’s current five-speed automatic should get the replacement in the form of the ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The Pentastar V-6 shouldn’t be the only petrol engine. A 2.0 liters Hurricane turbocharged inline-4 engine should be on the offer as well. This engine is estimated to offer around 300 horsepower.
The list of engine option list should continue with the diesel unit. The possible solution is the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine with the power output of around 240 hp and torque of 420 lb-ft.
2018 Jeep Scrambler: Design
When it comes to the design, the 2018 Jeep Scrambler will again borrow much from the upcoming Wrangler. The truck will sit on the same chassis as the Wrangler Unlimited, but stretched version, which should be upgraded version of the current Wrangler generation platform. The styling will also be very similar on two models which, on the other hand, should not stray from Wrangler’s current design language.
Actually, the army look mid-size truck will feature seven-slot grille and round headlamps as the current SUV. What’s more, it should be identical as the new Wrangler Unlimited except its rear will adopt the mid-sized cargo bed.
Two models should also make a use of the aluminum most likely for the hood and door panels. Expect the similar door design and exposed door hinges. The windshield should be more raked with the addition of some other aerodynamic enhancements as well. Another new feature could be the three-piece roof top which each part should be removable.
The interior should get slightly more refined design. The inclusion of the fresh materials, new tech and safety features is expected. The version of the latest Uconnect infotainment system will be available alongside with the navigation, strong sound system, etc. Some of the advanced safety systems could come to the game.
2018 Jeep Scrambler: Pricing and Release Date
As we mentioned earlier, the 2018 Jeep Scrambler could come together with the new Wrangler model. Another scenario is late 2019. More details about that should be known after the next Los Angele Show where the new Wrangler could make its debut. For the price, we expect to start from around $30, 000.
