We’ve spotted a prototype of the refreshed RX crossover a few days ago. The popular high-riding vehicle will be introduced at the upcoming 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, yet it’s not going to appears alone. No, because the car manufacturer prepares an all-new three-row model, which will also make the debut in Tokyo as the 2018 Lexus RX L. Unofficially, the seven-seat SUV is specially made for China and North America, so it won’t be sold worldwide.
2018 Lexus RX L: Features and Design
Since we saw the testing vehicle already, we know what to expect. Judging by the spy shots, the 2018 Lexus RX L will look pretty much the same as the updated two-row model. Though, the main differences will occur in the rear, where the seven-seater seems to feature a larger overhang and more upright tailgate. In addition, the roof lines appear to be flatter. All that will enable necessary space for a decent third row. At least we hope so. Styling wise, the 2018 RX L will feature a reshaped grille and new headlights in the front, while the rear should sport a pair of new taillights and a new bumper.
Inside, apart from the aforementioned third row of seats, the 2018 Lexus RX L will likely feature a new upholstery and redesigned dashboard. Toyota’s luxury department will probably update the existing infotainment and safety features.
Engine Options and Transmissions
There is nothing official regarding the engine options of the 2018 Lexus RX L. However, we know what’s cooking beneath the hood of the two-row model. We assume that the carmaker prepares pretty much the same choice for the third-row version. The SUV reportedly have three powertrain options. The base model will use a 2.0-liter turbo four with the ability to produce 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The second option is familiar already. It uses a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. Of course, the topping model is reserved for a hybrid powertrain. It will use the V6 and delivers up to 308 hp. The last two engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the base unit should come in a pair with a six-speed auto gearbox.
The car manufacturer hasn’t provided any pricing information at the moment, but we are sure they will announce that shortly after the official debut. As we see it, the 2018 Lexus RX L will cost at least $47,000.
