Recently at the 2016 New York auto show Lincoln Navigator Concept got its introduction, Lincoln is an ally of Ford and is appreciated for making luxury cars. It shares the same platform with the Ford Expedition. This full-sized SUV concept id featured by extravagant designs that are inspired by the designs of yachts and luxury sailboats. We saw that Continental model went to the production with only minimal modifications compared to its concept version and the same scenario is expected with production version of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator when it comes next year as the fourth generation model.
New for 2018:
The Navigator hasn’t changed for the 2017 model year but for the 2018 version it will come as the new generation model which is expected to be heavily inspired by the mentioned concept model. Official announcement is yet to come but new model is expected to introduce new styling and upgraded interior alongside with updated technology and powertrain.
2018 Lincoln Navigator: New Design
When it comes to the styling, a new-generation version of the Lincoln Navigator will come in new light. It is expected to look very similar to what we saw on the Concept model but it will drop a few features like fold-down staircase and gullwing doors.
On the other hand new design language will be adopted and it will transition from the signature split wing grille design to new mesh grille theme that is also featured on the new Continental and MKZ. New brand’s face will also include slimmer LED headlights and sleeker bumper.
It will also look less boxy and smaller thanks to clever body sculpting and that will be seen from its profile side. The rear end will also be treated with sleeker design and new taillights.
At the time of this writing it isn’t known would new Navigator be aluminum bodied or will it stay body-on-frame configuration.
Under the roof the 2018 Lincoln Navigator will continue to seat seven or eight passengers and expect again standard and extended wheel base versions. Upgraded materials and refreshed interior theme will also come with new model while redesigned dash will include new infotainment system with larger center screen and digital instrument panel is also expected.
The model is also expected to expand the safety kit with more advanced driver aids which should include automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, a 360 –degree camera system, lane departure warning, etc.
2018 Lincoln Navigator: Powertrain
There isn’t official announcement regarding engine option for the new 2018 Lincoln Navigator. However, we expect to see a 3.6 liter turbocharged and direct injected V-6 engine which should deliver more than 400 hp and better torque figures. Compared to the current 380 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque it will be significant boost which will improve model’s performance but upgraded design should also bring improvements in fuel economy.
The current version returns 17 mpg combined with two wheel drive and 16 mpg with all-wheel drive. It can also tow up to 9, 000 pounds.
As for its transmission it could get a new ten-speed automatic.
2018 Lincoln Navigator: Price, Arrival
2018 Lincoln Navigator is expected to arrive late in 2017 as a 2018 model. The new generation model will be produced at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville. We will surely see some price increase but at what extent it is too early to say.
