Although it has been redesigned last year, Maserati automaker has decided to once again give it a mild facelift. We are talking about the new 2018 Maserati Ghibli. The company has just given the Quattroporte model some refreshments so it was the right time to do the same with the Ghibli. It will also borrow some design cues from Quattroporte sedan.
The new Maserati has already been spotted during its testing. Judging by the position of the camouflage, mostly on the front fascia, we can conclude that we will probably see revised grille, bumper and lights. The interior has been revamped last year, so we won`t see anything new. Perhaps, it could get some new or improved tech features. The engine is expected to get more power as always. Furthermore, some sources say that the company is planning to cancel the Luxury and Sport trim levels. However, then they will probably introduce GranLusso and GranSport trims. The main rivals of the 2018 Ghibli will be: Audi RS7, Audi A6, Cadillac CTS-V, Porsche Panamera, Infiniti Q70 and so on.
Types of engines and performances
The 2018 Maserati Ghibli is going to be powered with two engines. The one is a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine. This unit will be capable of producing 345 horsepower. It will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. As well, it will be able to reach 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. The top speed of this engine will be 163 mph. Rear wheel-drive system will be standard.
The second option will be the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine which will, in the Sport trim, be able to make 404 horsepower. This unit will be quicker and able to hit 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. It will be mated to the same 8-speed gearbox. The maximum speed of this powertrain will be 176 mph. Moreover, the sport trim will be available with all-wheel drive configuration too.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior, the 2018 Maserati Ghibli will undergo some mild improvements. Like we have already mentioned, the front end will feature most of the changes. It will get more aggressive appearance this year. We will notice revised grille which will be more rounded. It will be positioned lower than before too. The headlamps will get chrome details which will divide the LED daytime running lights from the rest of the light. Furthermore, the front bumper will be new as well. The rear end will be refreshed with revamped bumper.
When it comes to interior, 2018 Maserati Ghibli won`t show any major changes. The infotainment system has already been upgraded last year so there was no need for a new one. The dashboard will feature an 8.4-inch touchscreen display. As well, we will see a new rotary controller on the center of the dash. These are probably all the novelties we`ll see in the new Maserati.
Release date and expected price of 2018 Maserati Ghibli
2018 Maserati Ghibli should be officially presented to the world at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. As for the price, the base model should cost around $70,000. However, the Sport trim will go up to $100,000.
