Ever since the advent of SkyActive technology that Mazda has been using, it has been able to tackle internal combustion limitations by some degrees. However, Mazda is now working on the HCCI technology that combines the capabilities of a diesel engine into a petrol engine. This technology uses the high pressure to ignite the fuel instead of the spark plugs like in the conventional engines. This aims to improve the fuel economy of Mazda vehicles by 30%. The first engines of this type should be used in the updated Mazda 3 which is expected towards the end of 2018. However, before that happens, the 2018 Mazda 3 will likely continue with some tech and features upgrades.
