A completely redesigned GLC replaced the slow-selling GLK back in 2015. This move brought Mercedes a new dose of success and made the compact luxury SUV segment more interesting and undoubtedly better. The amazing crossover is introduced as 2016 model, so it’s still pretty fresh and new. However, the German car manufacturer won’t wait too long for a mid-cycle refresh. Moreover, our insider claims that the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC could easily feature a new face and significantly better equipment. Still, what’s more important, it will add one more option under the hood.
2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Engines and Transmissions
Yes, the 2018 GLC is getting at least one new powertrain. Today’s model comes with a single option, but you can choose between the rear-wheel and all-wheel drive setup. Both are receiving power from a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injection inline-4 engine. The unit delivers 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough for a respectable performance. However, the carmaker plans to add a V6 unit that’s going to pack more power. Of course, it will be thirstier as well. It will be powered by a twin-turbocharged V-6 that is capable of producing up to 362 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of twist. This model will have standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and will be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The latest reports indicate that the crossover might also get a hybrid drivetrain. The all-new semi-electric SUV should be named the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC350 plug-in hybrid. It will use a 2.0-liter turbo with 211 horsepower and an 85-kW electric motor that adds 116 more ponies. The motor will draw the power from an 8.7-kWh lithium-ion battery and will be able to cross around 30 miles in all-electric mode. In contrast to other two engines, the hybrid is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Exterior and Interior Changes
The new exterior styling won’t differ too much from the current model. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC will receive mild cosmetic changes that will be mostly visible in the front end. There will be a pair of new and more aggressive headlights and a restyled front bumper with larger air intakes. Still, the new grille will be the first thing you will notice without any doubt. The car manufacturer will reportedly change the current grille with the new one, which will be borrowed from today’s GLC coupe. This will make the SUV more handsome without any doubt. Around back, the refreshed 2018 GLC should feature a redesigned exhaust setup and restyled taillights. Of course, since it’s a mid-cycle update, the manufacturer may also add several new color options.
The current interior looks pretty amazing, but the refreshed model should be even more charming inside. It’s because the automaker plans to add more standard equipment for the base model. The standard version will feature a power liftgate, keyless ignition, a backup camera, a power driver’s seat with memory, and a 7.0-inch infotainment display. You will be able to choose some amazing options such as an 8.4-inch screen and head-up display, or even adaptive cruise control with steering assist. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC won’t get more or less space inside, but the comfort should be considerably greater because of the new seats. They are ventilated and heated in the front and back, which is really great.
Estimated Price and Arrival
According to the newest rumors, the facelifted 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC will make the official debut either late this year or in early 2018. The premium compact crossover should keep the price unchanged. This means that you will still be able to afford the impressive high-riding vehicle for around $40,000.
