2018 Mitsubishi Mirage: Review, Hatchback, Specs

For all those who love small cars ideal for city and everyday ride and which are easy to park, then you should wait for the all new 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage. One of the main reasons for buying the Mirage model is its affordable price. As well, this compact hatchback shows an excellent fuel economy, especially when paired with a continuously variable transmission. Inside, the new Mitsubishi is surprisingly comfortable despite its small dimensions. However, what might turn you away from the new Mirage is its slow acceleration, noisy engine, especially at high speeds and cheap look of the cabin.

As the 2018 model year, new Mirage will offer more standard features. So, the base model will get new 7-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera and Bluetooth as standard equipment. It will be available in three trim levels. Those are the base ES, SE and GT models. Its main competitors on the market will be: Chevrolet Sonic, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit and Kia Rio.

2018 Mitsubishi Mirage powertrain, performance and fuel economy

Under the hood of the 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage will be placed one engine. It will be the same unit which powers the current model. It is a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine. This unit has the output of 78 horses and 74 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A continuously variable transmission will be available too. However, in the top trim GT, a CVT will be standard and the only option.

As for the fuel efficiency, with five-speed manual, it is rated at 36 mpg combined. With CVT, it is even better and offers 39 mpg combined. The new Mirage will be able to hit 60 mph in around 11.7 seconds. Despite its small size and weight of just slightly more than 2000 pounds, the engine cannot give better performance and acceleration.

Design of exterior and interior

When it comes to exterior design, there is not too much to talk about. The 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage will keep its recognizable, attractive appearance of small hatchback. It is 149.4 inches long and 59.4 inches tall. The front end features small chrome grille and a pair of attractive headlamps. It will ride on standard 14-inch steel wheels. The higher trims will get alloy wheels, fog lights and power mirrors with turn signals.

Speaking of the interior, the new 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage feels a bit cheap like we have mentioned earlier. The seats are upholstered in cloth and the front ones are very comfortable. The rear seats can split and fold-down if you need an extra cargo space which is generally crowded. The cabin is not quiet and you can feel the smallest bumps on the road. Furthermore, the dashboard will feature the new 7-inch touchscreen display. The higher trims will get smaller 6.5-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

As for the equipment, the base model comes standard with a rearview camera, Bluetooth, sound system with 4 speakers, USB, air-conditioning etc.

The SE model will offer automatic climate control, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless entry and ignition and so on.

The top trim will add 15-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and xenon headlamps.
