The Japanese automakers seem to have clearly thought their way to the compact crossover SUV market. Toyota has given this car numerous facelifts over the years, since its birth in 1995. Originally introduced as a compact SUV, it now aims to set its foot in the off-roading market as well. The model sits bellow Toyota’s three-row Highlander and above the new C-HR. Toyota refreshed this model for the 2016 model and in order to make the things more interesting the 2018 Toyota RAV4 introduces a new Adventure version and some new additional features.
2018 Toyota RAV4 Engine and Powertrains
Noteworthy to mention, Toyota has gifted its RAV4 with standard petrol as well as hybrid variants and power outputs vary with varying engine specifications.
The petrol engine is characterized by a 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder DOHC 16 valve with a dual VVT-i engine capable of producing a modest 176 HP and 172 lb-ft of torque. A hybrid variant, on the other hand, will provide slightly better power outputs of 194 HP at the driver’s disposal. This is the combined effort of a 154 HP produced by 2.5-liter inline-4 engine paired with Toyota’s hybrid Synergy Drive System. A slight closer check shows that Toyota has borrowed this electric motor directly from its Prius. With this power at hand, RAV4 can leap from 0-60 mph in 8.3 seconds with decent top speed figures of 114 mph.
This Japanese Automaker claims to provide 2018 Toyota RAV4 in RWD as well as AWD drivetrains which will affect it fuel economy indirectly. Mpg ratings its base model – the Toyota RAV4 “LE” will stand at 23 mpg in cities, 30 mpg on highways and a combined economy of 26 mpg. The hybrid on the other hand will provide a combined mpg of 24, spitting out 34 mpg in cities and 30 on highways.
2018 Toyota RAV4: Styling
Looking it from the outside, we won’t spot any changes on the versions that are currently available. The 2018 Toyota RAV4 won’t change its design approach and that was expected considering the 2016 model year refresh.
However, thanks to the new Adventure trim level, Toyota will add a more excitement to model’s lineup. The Adventure-characterized models will feature slightly lifted suspension which provides higher ground clearance. The model will also have broader fender flares accompanied with the 18-inch alloy wheels.
A further distinction of this model will be possible thanks to the unique lower body cladding and black touches around the headlights and fog units. This version will also be available in different body colors including silver, gray, black, red and white exteriors.
