A premium mid-size SUV which does not try to be a crossover – this 2018 Volkswagen Touareg is already a rarity. But that is what Volkswagen is all about, providing umpteen utility and safety along with top-of-the-line technology. Mid-size SUVs is a highly competitive market segment with competition come from the likes of Audi Q7 and Acura MDX among others. But this 3rd gen model comes with quite a few refreshments to it.
2018 Volkswagen Touareg Performance Upgrades:
This is one section of the spec sheet which VW needed to improve. And this upcoming model has quite a strong upgrade over the 2017 model. As a matter, VW will offer a 2018 Volkswagen Touareg with the multiple engine options in the Europe and with the single petrol unit in the US. The plug-in hybrid version is also in cards.
A V6 will be available as the diesel and petrol variant offered along with this hybrid variant. The petrol version should be a 3.6-liter VR6 engine which in the new Atlas produces 276 hp. A diesel-fueled 3.0-liter V-6 engine will also be the choice on the Old Continent with the power output of around 215 hp. The engines will work in conjunction with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid Touareg should be available in the two forms. One will combine a 3.0-liter V-6 TDI engine with the electric motor installed into the eight-speed transmission. Another plug-in hybrid warrant will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI engine in place of the V-6 TDI. With the lighter body and improved powertrains the third-gen Touareg will provide better fuel economy.
2018 Volkswagen Touareg: Exterior and Interior Modifications
As far spy images are concerned, this new Volkswagen Touareg 2018 will take a lot of design cues from the T-Prime concept VW released in Beijing just this year. There are more than a few things which needs to be taken into consideration when it comes to guessing accurately with the exterior changes. Spy images show a thick cover on the front and rear fascia. So, stay tuned for more updates on this section.
On the other hand, what we know for sure is that this model will be based on the new platform which already underpins the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga and upcoming Cayenne and Urus models. Thanks to the lightweight structure of the MQB 2 platform, the third-generation Touareg should drop around 440 lbs from its shoulders.
Interior modifications will be trim-specific combined with the technology and safety upgrades. Expect the new Touareg with a large center screen equipped with the latest infotainment platform and Gesture Control technology. The model will also come with a surround area view and Active Display info.
2018 Volkswagen Touareg: Pricing and Release Date
This upcoming 2018 Volkswagen Touareg will start from around $51,000. A slight hike in price thanks to added tech features right on the base model. A release date should be late this year or early next.
